WASHINGTON D.C. — April 3, 2025 - Dubbed “The Ad of the Cycle” by The Bulwark, The Seneca Project announced today that its viral political ad, American Girl, has been nominated for Best Use of Video (Social) in the 29th Annual Webby Awards. Hailed as “the internet’s highest honor,” by The New York Times, The Webby Awards are presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS) and celebrate global digital excellence.

Released just before the 2024 U.S. presidential election, American Girl is a powerful, music-driven call to action from the women-led Super PAC co-founded by Tara Setmayer and Michelle Kinney. The ad features the original song American Girl, written by Broadway star and recording artist Laura Bell Bundy, Shea Carter, and Jeremy Adelman, and performed by Bundy and Carter.

With creative direction by Kinney, the ad blends cultural milestones, historic footage, and striking visuals to tell the story of American women’s enduring fight for equality and freedom. The video spotlights trailblazers such as Rosa Parks, Geraldine Ferraro, Connie Chung, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Kamala Harris, Shirley Chisholm, and the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, among others.

American Girl quickly went viral, amassing over 2 million views within 48 hours and garnered widespread support from A-list celebrities like Julia Roberts, Viola Davis, Taraji P. Henson, and Amy Schumer, serving as both a warning and a rallying anthem urging women to seize the moment and make history by electing Kamala Harris as the first woman President of the United States. The ad captured a turning point in American politics, when freedom, equality, and democracy itself were on the line.

We’re also proud to share that American Girl was named a Webby Honoree in the Social – News & Politics category.

We are incredibly proud and deeply grateful for the support American Girl has received,” said Michelle Kinney, Chief Creative, Co-Producer, and Co-Founder of The Seneca Project. “As a brand-new, women-led organization, this recognition means the world to us. American Girl wasn’t just a video—it was a story we had to tell. It’s about who we are, what we fight for, and what we refuse to lose. We may be the little engine that could, but we’ve got grit, heart, and purpose—and we’re proud that this work, and the power of storytelling, has been recognized. This nomination isn’t just an honor—it’s proof that the truth still moves people. And we’re just getting started.”
